Clutter

Image via The Everygirl

Lately as I browse through blogs and enter new restaurants, I notice that minimalism has become "the" thing. I see photographs of chic apartments with tons of negative space and barebones decor with usually that one accent piece. Simple, pattern-less clothing cuts accented by simple shoes. White, black, and grey reign.

Yawn.

Stuff in too many books into that bookshelf, throw in *way* too many plants that are needed, mix patterns and prints, and add about five more-than-necessary pictures on the wall and I'm digging it. Call it "bohemian" or "busy", but we all know it's clutter.

I feel like with a home full of clutter, it has a story to tell. Things from bygone trips and old friends hang up on the wall or sit as bowls on the counter, and everything has some sort of history. I like places that look lived in, and make me want to get to know the people living there.

Brick Interior Walls

I helped some friends move into a new place today, and they moved into a great character building. Their place, although smaller than our's, has tons of more character with its exposed century-old wood and brick walls, and has some charming wheeled-out windows that peer onto the adorable street below. It made me wistful of the red brick that I'm used to from the east coast and excited for my trip back home in three days. Until then, I'll dream of some adorable apartments and houses with exposed brick and endless possibilities...

Cute & Kitschy Kitchens

Maybe it's because I've been spending too much time at home, but I've been really attracted to kitchen decor and aesthetics recently. I love the bright colors that some decorators have used, the rustic woods, and the beautiful natural light. It's probably kitchen-envy. My current kitchen, while LOADS bigger than our previous one in Cambridge, still lacks some desperately-needed character. I suppose I'll just keep adding to the bit of cute accents that I have to finally achieve the look that I want : )

Jaune

I don't know why, but I've been really attracted to yellow things lately. Everything in yellow just looks so happy and cheerful-- it's addicting! I love a lot of the shades of yellow (especially mustard yellow!) and I keep catching myself buying yellow pieces of clothing. Love it!

Ode to: Old Cambridge Apartment

The place Jon and I left in Cambridge was our first place together, and while it was neither big nor fancy, it was ours. This was the first place that we got to call our own and we started what felt was like a family unit. Getting this place was imperative to the growth of our relationship and really tested and played with what we knew our relationship to be. I loved this place and our time spent here, and I'm really going to miss it.

Indoor Gardens

I can't imagine living without indoor plants. My mom always had a green thumb, and between the chaoticly manicured backyard and abundant indoor plants, I grew up surrounded by green things. The sad thing is that I tend to kill most things (including jade plants, spider plants, cacti, and the like) but Jon has a magical necromancer touch to bring any plant back from the dead. We have a number of plants in our current apartment, but we'll have to give most away before our upcoming road trip.Victoria is known for its temperate climate and ability to grow and sustain most plants, so we'll have to begin anew-- perhaps leaving a door open for us to start gardening!
